Ultrasound is a non-invasive imaging test used to evaluate the blood vessels- arteries and veins- in the arms, legs, or other areas outside the heart and brain. It uses high-frequency sound waves to create real-time images of blood flow and vessel structure.
A small handheld device called a transducer is moved over the skin. The device sends sound waves into the body, which bounce off blood vessels and return as echoes. A computer converts these echoes into moving images on a screen.
